Company History

May 1892 Kuranosuke Oki founded Okigumi Kaisoten (shipping agency) and started a coastal cargo handling and barge transportation business.
October 1926 Acquired a license to operate a lorry transportation business and began operating this concurrently with the existing cargo business.
August 1942 With the port transportation business covered by the corporate control order during the war, the company’s marine transport and coastal cargo handling activities were merged with Sakai Port Transportation Co., Ltd., which became the parent company.
October 1943 With the port transportation business covered by the enterprise control order during the war, the company’s marine transport and coastal cargo handling activities were merged with Sakai Port Transportation Co., Ltd., which became the parent company.
(Following this, the company began coal storage management, loading and unloading of coal, coke, lignite and similar goods).
April 1949 Following the release of the harbor transportation business from wartime government control, Okigumi immediately resumed its coastal cargo activities.
February 1950 The private company was reorganized and the business was incorporated under the name, Okigumi Co., Ltd. It was formally registered on October 10 with capital of 950,000 yen. Taminosuke Oki assumed the position of Representative Director.
June 1952 Granted a regular haulage business license by the Minister of Transport (No. 245). Managed this business concurrently with truck transportation activities. Increased capital to 1.9 million yen.
July 1952 Received approval from Osaka Land Transportation Office for disassembly and maintenance of ordinary and small vehicles (Nos. 529 and 726).
October 1953 Granted authorization and approval for coastal cargo handling activities by the Minister of Transport (Sakai Port Class 4, License No.5).
November 1956 Spun off the truck transportation business and transferred this to Daishin Transport Co., Ltd., which was established as a subsidiary company.
May 1957 Increased capital to 3 million yen.
March 1958 Name of transportation division changed to Sakai Cargo Co., Ltd.
October 1960 Increased capital to 4 million yen.
August 1961 Increased capital to 5 million yen.
September 1962 Granted authorization and approval for coastal cargo handling activities by the Minister of Transport (Osaka Port Class 4 License No. 14).
December 1969 Granted approval by the Osaka Land Transportation Office (license no. 10312) to transfer the company’s general area road haulage activities from Sakai Cargo Co., Ltd. to Okigumi Co., Ltd.
December 1970 Increased capital to 10 million yen.
March 1984 Toshio Oki appointed as president.
Vacated site of former head office (4-2-68 Ohama Kita-machi, Sakai Ward, Sakai) to facilitate construction work on the Hanshin Expressway for the extension of the Osaka Bay shoreline. Applied to transfer to the company’s current site (42-47 Kitahata-cho, Sakai Ward, Sakai) and relocated the head office, cargo wharf and truck parking lot.
October 1993 Granted approval to operate industrial waste collection and transportation activities in Sakai City.
February 1994 Granted approval by the Kinki District Transport Bureau to operate warehouse activities (Kinki Transport storage license No. 66 (Warehouse License No. 1094))
March 1994 Granted approval to operate industrial waste collection and transportation activities in Tokushima Prefecture.
June 1994 Granted approval to operate industrial waste collection and transportation activities in Kawasaki City.
August 1996 Granted approval to operate industrial waste collection and transportation activities in Chiba Prefecture.
April 1998 Granted approval to operate industrial waste collection and transportation activities in Mie Prefecture.
July 1998 Granted approval to operate industrial waste collection and transportation activities in Osaka Prefecture.
May 2002 Obtained permission to operate industrial waste collection and transportation activities in Aichi Prefecture.
August 2002 Granted approval to operate specially-controlled industrial waste collection and transportation activities in Sakai City.
August 2002 Granted approval to operate specially-controlled industrial waste collection and transportation activities in Wakayama City.
January 2005 Yoshihiro Oki appointed as president.
November 2009 Granted approval by the Kinki Regional Bureau of Telecommunications to operate specified correspondence delivery services.
November 2013 Granted approval by the director-general of Osaka Customs to operate bonded warehouses.
June 2014 Granted approval to operate industrial waste collection and transportation activities in Kanagawa Prefecture.
July 2018 Received the “Marine Day” Minister’s Award from the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for distinguished service to the maritime industry.
July 2019 Yoshihiro Oki received the “Marine Day” Award from the director of Kinki District Transport Bureau for distinguished service to the maritime industry.
